Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns’ College Football Playoff hopes hung in the balance heading into their Week 8 game against the Ole Miss Rebels. Steve Sarkisian’s side was coming off a defeat against the Florida Gators, while the Rebels had absolutely destroyed the Missouri Tigers. So, the onus was on Manning to get Texas out of this little slump after back-to-back defeats to SEC rivals.
Manning took the game by the scruff of the neck in the first half, as he scored on a 2-yard run before throwing a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo as Texas took a 24-3 lead into halftime. But, questionable play-calling and execution errors in the second half, including a lost fumble and two interceptions, allowed Ole Miss back into the game. However, Texas eventually secured a 34-27 win.

The Texas quarterback completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards, two interceptions and one passing touchdown. He also rushed for two touchdowns. This performance again proved that Manning has the ability to become an elite quarterback, provided he can get rid of the habit of making costly mistakes in every game.
However, the question arises whether Manning is to be blamed for those errors or whether Sarkisian’s play-calling hasn’t been up to standards. At this point, it feels like a combination of both. Manning’s first interception, which was picked off by Jalyn Crawford, was a poor decision, while the lost fumble on a strip-sack also raises questions about the offense’s execution and protection.
So would Manning play better in a better system? There’s a possibility that we might get to see that. David Pollack has shared an update about Manning’s future amid transfer rumors.
While speaking with Bleacher Report, Pollack said, “Unless this turns around crazy, Arch ain’t gonna be there next year. I don’t think he’ll be at Texas.”

“I had one person, a coach, a head coach in the SEC, tell me he’d be shocked if he didn’t end up at Georgia. Remember, he committed to Georgia,” he added.
Manning may or may not transfer, but his current task at hand is to take Texas to the College Football Playoff and lead the team to that elusive national championship.
