Brian Kelly is a famous college football coach, who has years of experience. He is best known for his time with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he became the program’s all-time winningest coach with 113 victories.
He later joined the Louisiana State University as their head coach, before getting fired last year. Kelly has now hinted at a return to college football, and has mentioned some possible teams to join.
Brian Kelly praises three struggling programs
Kelly offered a detailed assessment of the open head coaching positions at Baylor, Maryland and North Carolina State during an appearance on SiriusXM’s College Sports Radio. The former coach described the vacancies created by the departures of Dave Aranda, Mike Locksley and Dave Doeren as “all unique,” noting their placement in the Big 12, Big Ten and ACC respectively.

He said, “They’re all unique, right? You know, we’re talking about ACC, Big 12, and and and the Big Ten. From a conference standpoint, the Big Ten obviously has proved itself to have that kind of appeal, right? With Maryland, it is a fertile recruiting area. There’s no doubt that that DMV area is a really good recruiting area. I think they’ve done great things in terms of upgrading facilities.”
He then praised NC State as well, “North Carolina State, another great recruiting area. The ACC, you know, other than Miami, with Clemson not being where they were before, (there’s) a shot, right? I can win this thing at the ACC level, and I think that’s what makes it very attractive, as well as the geographical area.”
Kelly then talked about Baylor at last, “And then Baylor, it’s Texas. You know, you’re going to have players at Baylor, and that’s an institutional commitment that they’ve made. You may say these are not the blue chip (places), but they have the ability to be part of the playoffs each and every year, and they have the ability to contend within their league, and that’s what makes all three of these jobs attractive, in my opinion.” While he has mentioned these places, Kelly has not been linked to any vacant role yet. He previously spoke about getting back in a head coaching role.
Brian Kelly talks about rumors
Kelly earlier talked about his name being linked to other head coach roles. He said, “You hate hearing the rumors, because that means somebody’s job is being evaluated. It’s uncomfortable for me. I don’t feel easy about it. I think we all know it’s something that gets out in the media and it’s talked about because it’s juicy, right? But, for me, I just focus on what I’m doing on a day-to-day basis.”
He added, “I don’t relish my name being mentioned for other jobs. I’m pulling for the guy that’s got that job and I want to see him do well.”
It remains to be seen whether Brian Kelly will be back in college football.
