College Football Picks for Texas State vs. Oregon State
There might not have been a more rocking-chair winning bet than the Early Pick of Week 9. Duke boatraced Boston College by a score of 47-2, bringing this column to 6-2 on the season.
The focus of Week 10 comes in the Pac-12 on the heels of two surprising games from Texas State and Oregon State.
The Beavers were beaten soundly by Fresno State last week, as the Bulldogs posted more than two overall yards per play.
Quarterback Braden Atkinson was held to a single touchdown despite 373 passing yards. Biletnikoff contender Jesse Legree had one of his lowest outputs of the season, catching seven of his 11 targets for just 70 yards.
More importantly, the Fresno State defense stood tall in the red zone, as the Beavers scored just two touchdowns on seven visits.
The biggest issue for the Oregon State defense came from containing a mobile quarterback for the Bulldogs. Fresno State signal-caller Jayden Mandal took to the ground for two rushing touchdowns on top of two passing scores.
Oregon State will run into similar issues with Texas State, as quarterback Brad Jackson was the leading rusher for the Bobcats in a near upset of Boise State.
The junior has six rushing touchdowns this season with over 500 yards on the ground, complementing his 18:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the passing game.
This game should be filled with highlights and minimal defensive play, but the Bobcats have shown the ability to stop the run against opponents.
Texas State will have the advantage from an offensive perspective, as Oregon State’s defensive numbers suggest success for the Bobcats on the ground and through the air.
The Beavers have become one-dimensional as a passing offense, and a blueprint on how to stop Oregon State now exists thanks to Fresno State.
Action Network’s Betting Power Ratings call for Oregon State to win by just a field goal, giving value to the opening market.
This could be the live betting game of the weekend, as a Texas State +7 ticket is a good first and potential only investment on the game.
Pick: Texas State +7 or Better
