Florida football hit a brick wall in the form of the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 9, dropping its annual rivalry game for the sixth straight year, 27-8, in disappointing fashion. The Gators are now 5-3 (3-3 SEC) in Jon Sumrall's debut campaign and still a win away from clinching a spot in the postseason.
Following the embarrassing defeat in Atlanta, Sumrall's squad finds itself back outside of the US LBM Coaches Poll top 25, tumbling to a de facto No. 27 ranking with 81 points. The Gators were last unranked after their homecoming loss to South Carolina in Week 6.
The SEC's representation among the top 25 slipped to eight schools with Florida's demotion, but is still headlined by second-ranked Georgia, followed by Kentucky (No. 7), Alabama (No. 9), Texas (No. 11), Ole Miss (No. 12), LSU (No. 15), Tennessee (No. 16), and Missouri (No. 19). South Carolina also appeared on the ballot, holding the de facto No. 26 spot with 91 points, while UF is only the other conference team to earn votes this week.
Next up, Florida returns home to host Oklahoma on Saturday, Nov. 7, inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:45 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
