With the unranked Florida football team looking to beat the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs, the question of who will start at quarterback has come up, and the answer has likely been revealed. Though Florida football quarterbacks Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones are questionable for the contest, this college football insider has the answer on Philo’s return.
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Gators are preparing to start Philo, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury and didn’t play in the Oct. 17 win over the Texas Longhorns. Last seen in the Oct. 10 game against South Carolina, Thamel says that both Philo and Jones got first-team reps this past week in practice.
“Sources: Florida will start Aaron Philo at quarterback against No. 3 Georgia this weekend,” Thamel wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Both he and Tramell Jones Jr. have taken first-team reps in practice this week. Philo (shoulder) last played against South Carolina on Oct. 10.”

Gators head coach Jon Sumrall said on Monday that he would not name a starting quarterback, as it was expected that both Philo and Jones would be available for the clash against the Bulldogs.
“Florida head coach Jon Sumrall said he is not naming a QB at this point ahead of Saturday’s Georgia game. Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones are both expected to be available, will see how this week progresses,” Nakos wrote on X.
Another return likely coming for the Florida football team
So far this season for the Florida football team, Philo has thrown for 1,341 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions, as Jones, in the lone start against the Longhorns, threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns. To help the offense, the Gators will be getting back wide receiver Vernell Brown, who has been probable on the injury report and hasn’t played since Sept. 26 against Ole Miss.
“Florida star WR Vernell Brown has been probable on the injury report this week, and the Gators remain optimistic he will return Saturday against Georgia, sources tell [On3 Sports],” Nakos wrote Friday.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how the Gators perform against Georgia on Saturday.
