The Kentucky Wildcats have one final opportunity to prepare for the 2026-27 college basketball season, and Wednesday night’s exhibition against UCF provides an intriguing test before the games begin counting toward the standings.

No. 23 Kentucky welcomes the Knights to Rupp Arena in Lexington after winning its first two preseason exhibitions. The Wildcats defeated Little Rock 69-49 before earning an impressive 76-65 victory over No. 19 Texas Tech on Friday.

That latest performance was particularly encouraging for head coach Mark Pope because Kentucky placed five players in double figures against a nationally ranked opponent. The balanced scoring demonstrated the potential of a roster still developing chemistry ahead of the regular season.

UCF enters Wednesday after splitting its first two exhibition games. The Knights suffered a narrow defeat against LSU before bouncing back with a victory over Rollins College.

Both teams are preparing for demanding conference schedules, making Wednesday’s exhibition an important opportunity to evaluate rotations and continue building chemistry.

With Kentucky looking to remain unbeaten in exhibition play and UCF attempting to earn an impressive road win, the game should offer plenty of intrigue for college basketball fans.

Kentucky Coming Off Impressive Victory Over Texas Tech

The Wildcats have been productive during their first two exhibitions. Kentucky opened with a victory over Little Rock, limiting its opponent to fewer than 50 points while making 12 three-pointers.

Milan Momcilovic led Kentucky with 16 points, while Alex Wilkins contributed 11. The Wildcats followed that performance with a stronger test against Texas Tech.

Kentucky defeated the No. 19 Red Raiders, placing five players in double figures. Momcilovic and Malachi Moreno each scored 15 points, while freshman Mason Williams added 14. Wilkins contributed 13 and Ousmane N’Diaye finished with 10.

The balanced scoring was an encouraging development for a team hoping to compete near the top of the SEC.

Wednesday gives Pope another opportunity to evaluate how his players perform against a Big 12 opponent.

UCF Looking to Finish Preseason Strong

The Knights enter Wednesday with a 1-1 exhibition record. UCF opened with an 85-81 loss at LSU before defeating Rollins College in its second preseason game.

Dior Johnson has been one of the team’s most productive players, scoring 18 points against LSU and 19 against Rollins. Johnson also collected seven rebounds against Rollins, demonstrating his ability to contribute in multiple areas.

His early performances have provided encouraging signs for a UCF team hoping to build on last season’s 21-12 record.

The Knights reached the NCAA Tournament last season before losing to UCLA in the first round. Head coach Johnny Dawkins is entering his 11th season leading UCF and will be looking for another competitive performance before the regular season begins.

Final Exhibition Before the Regular Season

Wednesday’s game will be Kentucky’s third and final exhibition. The Wildcats officially open the regular season Nov. 3 against Manhattan at Rupp Arena.

That gives Pope less than a week to finalize his rotation and make any remaining adjustments.

Kentucky’s first two exhibitions have demonstrated encouraging defensive ability and balanced scoring, but the Wildcats will be looking for another complete performance against UCF. The Knights will also use the game to prepare for their regular-season opener against Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 2.

Although Wednesday’s result will not count toward either team’s official record, the matchup offers valuable preparation before conference play and the challenges of the upcoming season.
