MASSILLON − The Massillon Tigers' "world tour" of a high school football schedule continues Friday night with a game against the Cornerstone Christian Warriors, from San Antonio, Texas.

The unbeaten Tigers already have defeated England-based NFL Academy, Buffalo-based Canisius and Canada-based Football North. Farrell (Pennsylvania) was under contract to play at Massillon last week but elected not to play. That game was ruled a forfeit victory for Massillon.

The Tigers entered the week with the status of six first-year transfer students uncertain of their eligibility pending a hearing in Stark County Common Pleas Court. Read below to see who is playing and what is happening in the pregame and during the game against Cornerstone.

Massillon drive stalls, Cornerstone stays in tie

Senior Sabastian Harper (6-0, 195, Sr.) broke up a pass over the middle on one play. An another, soon after, he lined up at nose tackle and disrupted a pass attempt.

After a punt, Gary Yeager got the Tigers moving with a tackle-breaking reminiscent of the Sat. Edward game.

On a third and 3 from the 24, Rasmus Haines threw incomplete to Gio Jackson in the left corner of the end zone. Savior Owens carried on fourth and 3, drawing a measurement.

The Tigers were short, and Cornerstone took over with 4:27 left in the half in a 7-7 game.

Turn of events. Here's how Massillon tied the game.

Gary Yeager is playing, and the Tigers are using him to try to cut into a 7-0 deficit after one quarter.

A very short punt by Cornerstone gave the Tigers good field position.

Rasmus Haines through a corner bomb that resulted in a pass interference, providing a first down on the 20.

Savior Owens made a nice double-cutback run to set up a third and 1. Owens bounced outside for an 11-yard touchdown on the next play. Mateo Herrera's extra-point boot made it 7-7 with 9:35 left in the first half.

Tigers struggling, punt on fourth and 25

Penalties hurt Massillon on its first two possessions, including a hold that wiped out a run by Gary Yeager to near midfield.

Immediately after the hold, 6-foot-4 Cornerstone defensive end Jerry Robinson was all over QB Rasmus Haines off the snap. The Tigers punted on fourth and 25, giving Cornerstone the ball at midfield.

Stunner at Massillon: Cornerstone Christian strikes for long TD

Soon after missing a field goal, Massillon gave up a 75-yard touchdown pass to speedy outside receiver Isaiah Reggie. He got a step on cornerback Chayce White, took a quick pass from6-foot-3 senior quarterback Seth Shuler, and was off to the races down the right sideline.

Cornerstone led 7-0 with five minutes left in the first quarter.

Massillon makes stop, drives, tries field goal

Mateo Herrera opened the game by kicking a touchback.

The Massillon defense put up a quick three-and-out.

The Massillon offense quickly went to 6-foot-6 tight end Da’Shaun Williams, one of the players eligible under a restraining order. His 20-yard sideline catch was followed by a 12-yard Savior Owens run. The latter play was well called and blocked, with Owens encountering no defenders until the 10-yard mark.

A 15-yard penalty against left tackle Marcus Garner put the Tigers in third and long.

Herrera wound up trying a 33-yard field goal. He boomed it, but it sailed wide right, returning the ball to Cornerstone Christian in a scoreless tie with 6:48 left in the first quarter.

Cornerstone would like to lure Massillon to Texas

Darryl Hemphill, Cornerstone Christian's 66-year-old athletic director, sees his school as well on its way to being the best private-school team in Texas.

Cornerstone is based in San Antonio, Hemphill's home town. He told us the scheduling relationship with Massillon might be confined to the games last year and tonight (both at Massillon), but he is open to seeing the Tigers again.

"I don't know if it can happen, but we'd love for them to come down and play us in San Antonio," he said before tonight's game.

Brayton Feister draws big cheer from Massillon crowd

Brayon Feister is not in uniform, ruled ineligible, but he participated in Senior Night in advance of the game.

He drew the biggest cheer among seniors introduced one by one before the Cornerstone Christian game, about 15 minutes before kickoff.

Texas coach reacts to Feister brothers' absence in Massillon pregame

Cornerstone Christian head coach Clayton Guillory is well aware who the Feisters are.

“I was hoping they would play,” he said as his team warmed up an hour before kickoff. “We have some players we think are being under-recruited, and this was a chance for them to get it on tape how they can do against that kid of competition.”

Guillory said his team is clearly stronger than the one that lost at Massillon last year by a 45-20 score.

Cornestone features two gigantic offensive tackles, one of whom is being chased by Ohio State. He is JaiStorm Knight, a 6-foot-9 335-pound junior.

Feister brothers scratched off Massillon football depth chart. The replacements?

In arriving at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium and checking in at the media booth, the Massillon depth chart we were issued crosses out the names of Brayton Feister and Brydon Feister.

Listed as the backup (and presumptive starter tonight) at Brayton Feister's "buck" linebacker position is De'vaughn Williams, a 5-foot-9, 210-pound junior.

The starter at Brydon Feister's defensive end position is uncertain. It could be a matter of shuffling roles, in that 6-4, 240-pound senior Joe Karder, listed as the backup to Brydon Feister, has been an interior line starter all year.

Starting offensive tackle Marcus Garner (6-3, 290) could see added action on both sides of the ball. Da'Shaun Williams (6-6, 240, Jr.), one of the transfers who has been cleared by OHSAA and is eligible for the entire season, could plug into the defensive line. Williams has started at tight end all season.

Keeping an eye out to see which Massillon football transfers are playing

Massillon’s depth chart is in a fluid situation as the season rushes toward the playoffs.

Four starters and a backup running back who has dazzled may or may not be eligible when the Tigers’ Week 10 game against McKinley rolls around.

Amid a court case that included a key session Friday, it was unclear which of the five would suit up against Cornerstone Christian, but it looked doubtful for the most conspicuous two, team tackles leader Brayon Feister and team sacks leader Brydon Feister.

OHSAA regulations allow certain first-year transfers to play for five games before having to sit out the remainder of the season and postseason.

Six players who transferred to Massillon this year were involved in the first five games but were cleared for the sixth game under a temporary restraining order. Starting tight end Da’Shaun Williams has since been cleared to play the full season by OHSAA.

The restraining order was extended to allow three of the six (one is a backup defensive back) to suit up against Cornerstone Christian, but the extension did not apply to the Feister brothers. They became the subject of a Common Pleas Court hearing Friday in which the court sided with the OHSAA. The new ruling, upholding the OHSAA’s ruling that the Feisters are done for the year.

Attorney Lee Plakas appealed Friday’s ruling to a district court hours before the Cornerstone Christian game.

Backup running back Gary Yeager, who ran for 232 yards in a recent win over Lakewood St. Edward, is eligible to play under the extension of the restraining order, which also applies to starting right tackle Micah Walker.

We’ll monitor warmups and report who winds up playing.
