Middle Tennessee vs Kansas College Basketball Preview
The Blue Raiders are coming off a 117-73 win over non-Division I opponent Fisk on Monday.
Now, they’ll face an actual test against a team ranked inside the top five in most advanced analytical models.
Head coach Nick McDevitt returns just one starter from last season, along with three reserves.
McDevitt’s most notable transfer addition is former Oral Roberts forward Ofri Naveh, who averaged 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 47% from the floor.
The Blue Raiders also brought in several former Division II transfers who could provide some upside to this program.
They should be an OK team, but nothing like some of the other programs in Conference USA. That’s why they’re projected to finish in the middle of the pack.
Is it safe to say that if Bill Self contemplated retirement but ultimately decided to stay, we’re probably looking at a fully loaded Jayhawks squad?
Is that not a pretty decent assessment of how good the iconic coach thinks this team could be?
Kansas brings in former No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes, who could be an all-around force and potentially the team’s leading scorer.
Stokes made an early statement in the Jayhawks’ season opener, scoring 15 points and snagging seven rebounds. He should be an absolute joy to watch this season.
Despite what those old magazines might have you believe, Kansas also returns veterans Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White, two players who bring plenty of experience.
White kicked off the season with a 22-point performance against Fordham, while Council stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists.
Kansas should be back to its 2022 form with this group. Coach Self should be pretty pleased with his decision to run it back for another year.
To some, Kansas is in a look-ahead spot, as the Jayhawks have to travel to Chicago to play Kentucky on Tuesday in the Champions Classic.
I don’t see it that way. It’s Nov. 6.
There’s no reason to even think, debate or ponder taking your foot off the gas in the first week of the season.
Teams are still working through early-season flaws and fine-tuning their game plans.
The Jayhawks should completely demolish the Blue Raiders on Friday night.
Despite playing Fordham on Monday, Kansas has already been tested in exhibition play, facing both Duke and Louisville. The Jayhawks lost both matchups, but those tests are far greater than anything Middle Tennessee has endured over the last few weeks.
The Blue Raiders prepared for the 2026-27 season by simply scrimmaging themselves before opening the season against Fisk.
This should be a bloodbath. Kansas on the points or nothing here.
Pick: Kansas -27.5
