The Ohio State Buckeyes received some really disappointing news on Monday when it became official that their game against the Northwestern Wildcats would be Fox's Big Noon Kickoff.
In a vacuum, this decision is neither a surprise nor a big deal, but the context of the season is that the Buckeyes are going to go another full season without having played a regular-season night game inside the Horseshoe.
They did get one primetime kickoff this year, and that was their Week 2 game against the Texas Longhorns. However, the reason for that makes a lot of sense. The Longhorns are obviously an SEC program, which means that ESPN had the TV rights for that game.
The main issue here is that Fox and their great idea of the Big Noon Kickoff is one of the worst things going on in college football.
Week after week, the best Big Ten game gets played at 12:00 EST. Meanwhile, the best SEC matchups are happening under the lights on Saturday nights, with the eyes of the world upon them.

Ohio State is one of the most storied programs ever in the history of college football, and certainly over the past 10 years, they have been one of the biggest brands in the entire sport.
It continues to be baffling just how they simply never get the opportunity to play a night game at home, especially after the 2024 College Football Playoffs. That playoff set began in Columbus when the Buckeyes hosted the Tennessee Volunteers in a game that did a "Scarlet Out" inside The 'Shoe on A Friday Night.
It was one of the most electric atmospheres in recent football memory.
Big Noon Kickoff is a true disaster for Fox. Everyone involved with the product knows that it is one of the most universally disliked "primetime" options to play in. The approval rating is incredibly low, and the main result is that Fox built this concept by trying to "own" the noon slot.
They don't own it, and it frankly doesn't matter much. There are so many games on during the noon window that the Big Noon Game and its production just get absolutely lost in the shuffle.
As a result, Ohio State won't play any night games inside the Horseshoe in 2026. It is a bummer, and we need to talk about the long-term impact of the Buckeyes having to play these games week after week.
Buckeyes and Northwestern Wildcats set to do battle next Saturday November, 14th at noon.
