When we last saw Oklahoma and Florida play, the Sooners rolled 55-20 in the 2020 Cotton Bowl over a high-powered Gator team that lost to eventual national champion Alabama in an epic SEC Championship.
The other meeting was the BCS Championship at the end of the 2009 season, when Tim Tebow and the Gator defense took down Heisman-winner Sam Bradford and the amazing Sooner attack 24-14 for the national title.
The stakes aren’t as high this time around, but for a Florida program that’s on the rise, and No. 24 in the first College Football Playoff rankings, and for a 4-4 Oklahoma desperate to close strong, this will be intense.
Oklahoma vs Florida: Quick Hits
- Oklahoma at 4-4, needs to win two of its last four to be bowl eligible. It hosts Ole Miss and Texas A&M after this before closing at Missouri.
- Florida is coming off the 27-8 loss to Georgia. It goes to Kentucky next, hosts Vanderbilt, and finishes at Florida State.

Why Oklahoma Will Win
The defense continues to fight the good fight.
It had a problem in the 42-25 loss to South Carolina, but the defense is fantastic on third downs thanks to a pass rush that takes over games. But to beat Florida, you have to slow down the run.
The Gators are 0-3 when running for fewer than 155 yards, and the Sooners give up just 107 yards per game. Only Mississippi State and, last week, South Carolina have been able to gash the Sooners for more.
Why Florida Will Win
Oklahoma’s offense has a hard time running the ball. With a defense as good as the Sooners have, all the O has to do is keep it moving and not screw it up. But no running game means more pressing overall, and then come the mistakes.
The Sooners only average 107 yards per game on the ground, and they just can’t find any room to move. The Gators have to hold up, and then pounce on an Oklahoma attack that turned it over four times against both Georgia and Kentucky, three times against New Mexico, and twice against Michigan.
Oklahoma vs Florida Prediction, Betting Lines
It’s stupid, but if you buy into these things, going back to the last two games of last season, Oklahoma is on a ten-game run of alternating wins and losses. The Sooners beat Texas, then lost to Kentucky, beat Mississippi State, lost to South Carolina, beat … Florida?
The Sooners have the defense to hold up and make Florida struggle. The Gators got by Texas a few weeks ago, but it’s been a struggle, losing three of the last four. Weird trends aside, this Oklahoma team really does have a way of rallying when it absolutely has to.
