The South Carolina Gamecocks’ celebration after Saturday’s 27-24 win over the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers led to a major financial punishment from the SEC.
The conference announced Sunday it’s fined South Carolina $500,000 after fans stormed the field at Williams-Brice Stadium following Malik Orsan’s 48-yard, game-winning field goal as time expired.
The penalty follows the SEC’s updated field-storming policy, which calls for a flat $500,000 fine when fans enter competition areas. The SEC states that “institutions shall limit access to competition areas” for “the safety of participants and spectators alike.”
Tennessee will receive the money, per the conference policy, with the Vols enduring a similar penalty a week ago after upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide.

South Carolina had previously been fined $250,000 under the conference’s former escalating system after fans stormed the field following a 44-20 win over then-No. 10 Texas A&M in 2024.
Commissioner Greg Sankey has since changed the rule to a $500,000 penalty for each violation.

The Volunteers led 24-17 in the fourth quarter before LaNorris Sellers scored a game-tying rushing touchdown with 1:17 remaining.
Tennessee then turned the ball over when Dylan Stewart forced a fumble on quarterback George MacIntyre. South Carolina recovered at the Tennessee 34 and moved into position for Orsan’s game-winning kick.
The win moved the Gamecocks to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in SEC play in South Carolina’s second win of the season over a ranked team.
South Carolina travels to Oklahoma next Saturday to face the Sooners at 4:15 p.m. ET.
