My official stance on last Saturday’s loss is pure, uncut “Frankly, I don’t want to talk about it,” via the late Lewis Grizzard.

Though, if you’d told Early Saturday Afternoon Gray that Ole Miss would hold Texas to 88 rushing yards on 30 carries heading into the fourth quarter, I would’ve said, “Vaya con Dios, Steve Sarkisian.” But, NEVERTHELESS.

I attended the game with Red Cup OG JUCO All-American and, during the avalanche of suck that was the first half, we discussed the possibility of leaving at halftime if things got worse. We established that our hard out was any score above 24-3.

During this discussion in a TV timeout, Bevo appeared on the jumbotron as one of his handlers gave him a well-deserved treat for putting up with a lot of noise and people and not FREAKING OUT. What was said tasty treat? A cone of hay? A cake of oats? A salt lick of Mack Brown backslapping a booster?

The correct answer was none of the above. Instead, Bevo simply housed two big ol’ slices of watermelon.

Did I know Texas Longhorn steers eat watermelon? I did not! Does this have anything to do with Ole Miss missing tackles and blowing run fits in the fourth quarter on the way to giving up 121 rushing yards on 12 carries? Absolutely not. Does it relieve any frustration? Also no.

But never let it be said you can’t learn anything in the midst of a 24-3 first-half disaster where you’re debating leaving the game and being home before the third quarter ends.
