The No. 17 Florida Gators are set to start Aaron Philo against the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs after the quarterback suffered a shoulder injury against South Carolina on Oct. 10 that kept him out of UF's 27-24 upset win over Texas on Oct. 17.
Following the bye, the Gators have good news for a receiver that will help Philo against Georgia on Saturday.
Per On3's Pete Nakos, the Gators will have wide receiver Vernell Brown III available to play against the Bulldogs after he was listed on the SEC's availability report as probable this week while battling a knee injury. He last played in Florida's 52-28 win over Ole Miss on Sept. 26.
The Gators are 4-0 with Brown on the field. He has 17 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns this season. His best game of the season was against FAU, when he caught six passes for 117 yards and one touchdown. He finished with three catches for 25 yards against the Rebels.
The bye week after the win over Texas came at a great time for Florida. The extra week allowed Brown to get healthy before playing one of the best teams in the country and one of the Gators' main rivals, the Bulldogs.
Georgia had a bye last week after coming off a 27-24 loss to Auburn at home. In that game, Georgia's defense limited Auburn to 174 yards passing and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs gave up 192 yards and a score. Tigers quarterback Byrum Brown threw for 150 yards and a score while rushing for 115 yards and one touchdown.
It'll be interesting to see if Brown's return has an effect on Florida's running game. Running back Jadan Baugh rushed for 136 or more yards during the Gators’ first four contests with Brown on the field.
In the last three games, Baugh was limited to 13 yards rushing against Mizzou, 59 yards against South Carolina, and 91 yards against Texas. He did have one touchdown against South Carolina and Texas.
Florida will enter the game with a 5-2 record. The Gators are very much alive in the College Football Playoff race despite having two losses thanks to their big wins against the Rebels and Longhorns.
That makes Saturday's game against Georgia even more compelling for UF. Following Saturday's game, Florida will have tough challenges against Oklahoma and No. 9 Kentucky to start November.
