The Florida Gators are fresh off a humbling loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, but not even that was enough to keep this team out of the AP Top 25.
In the Week 9 edition of the rankings which was released on Sunday, Nov. 1, the Gators checked in at No. 25.
Sure, they dropped eight spots, but they're one of two three-loss teams to be ranked at this point in the year.
The only other is also in the SEC, that being the 5-3 South Carolina Gamecocks.
South Carolina has won three straight, including a 38-19 win in Gainesville on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Florida's 27-8 loss to Georgia was eye-opening, to say the least, but at least it was another loss to a quality team as the Bulldogs are now up to No. 2 in the nation.
Florida is ranked heading into Oklahoma game
The biggest thing for Florida is not dropping a fourth game as then things could get dicey for Jon Sumrall's hope of making a bowl game.
With Kentucky still on the schedule, these final four games are not going to be easy for the Gators, especially since they've dropped three of their last four.
The Texas win absolutely stands out as one of the best in college football this season, but the Longhorns have proven time and time again they're not in the same conversation as a team like Georgia.
Remember, Texas lost to Oklahoma, 27-27, back on Oct. 10, so that really puts things into perspective for the Gators heading into their next game.
That said, the Sooners are only 4-4. They lost a Halloween showdown to the aforementioned Gamecocks, 42-25.
Keep in mind, Oklahoma hasn't won or lost back to back games all year. They're one of the most .500 teams college football has ever seen, though a loss to Florida would push them down to 2-4 in SEC play.
Florida being ranked No. 25 doesn't mean much at this point in the year, but should they win out and pick up an impressive win against the Wildcats, things could get interesting in the College Football Playoff conversation.
Whether or not a three-loss Gators teams make the cut would be an extremely interesting conversation. Moving forward, with a 24-team field, there's no doubt Florida would be in the running, but sadly for Sumrall, the 2026 playoff field has yet to expand.
Florida's final four games are vs. Oklahoma, at Kentucky, vs. Vanderbilt, and at Florida State.
