Lincoln Riley and Baylor make sense for all parties involved, including USC moving on at head coach.
Lincoln Riley and USC appear set for a divorce.
But Riley has an immediate rebound head coaching position available. And honestly, it might make for a perfect fit.
Riley is a West Texas native, playing high school football at Muleshoe, a small town of roughly 5,000 people. From there, he walked on at Texas Tech, backing up Kliff Kingsbury and B.J. Symons.
As for his coaching career, that also started at Texas Tech, followed by runs at East Carolina and Oklahoma. He took over with the Trojans in 2022, winning 11 games that year.

But that was the best season for Riley and USC, as thye have won eight, seven, nine and are currently 6-2 on the year.
Overall, Riley’s record looks impressive. He is 96-30 overall, winning three bowl games with five seasons of at least 10 wins.
Things, though, appear to have soured between Riley and USC. The offense is lacking, the defense isn’t making big plays and the Trojans just are not competing for national titles.
Lincoln Riley Would Make A Perfect Head Coach At Baylor
So why Baylor?
Riley has the Texas connections already from his past as we mentioned. Also, Baylor has proven in the past they can compete at a high level, especially in the Big 12 Conference.

The Bears have a Heisman Trophy winner in Robert Griffith III, along with four who have finished inside of the Top-10 in the voting.
In recent years, though, they have struggled under Dave Aranda. Prior to Aranda’s arrival, Matt Rhule and Art Briles had an exciting offense that put points on the board.
Being in Texas, there is a plethora of available high school talent in the pool. And with the transfer portal still as big as ever, Riley would be able to quickly load up a roster that could compete immediately in the conference.
