Miami is the new No. 1 and Ohio State nearly drops out of the top 10 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138.
One of just three unbeaten teams in the Bowl Subdivision, the Hurricanes were able to hold off North Carolina for a 38-35 win to remain perfect heading into Saturday’s game at No. 6 Notre Dame.
Just behind Miami is No. 2 Georgia, which delivered an impressive level of game control in a win against rival Florida. Utah climbs one spot to No. 3, Brigham Young rises to No. 4 despite a tight win against Arizona State and Indiana rounds out the top five after an overtime victory against Minnesota.
Ohio State was last week’s No. 1 but falls nine spots to No. 10 after losing 30-18 to Southern California. The Trojans moved up 13 spots to No. 17.

The Buckeyes’ second loss drops them behind eight unbeaten or one-loss Power Four teams. They also fall behind two-loss Texas because of the Longhorns’ head-to-head win in September.
That wasn’t the biggest tumble in this week’s re-rank. Also falling down the rankings are No. 32 SMU (down 14), No. 33 Florida (11), No. 38 Oklahoma State (13), No. 47 Oklahoma (15) and No. 49 Nebraska (18).
Along with USC, newcomers to the top 25 include No. 20 Texas Tech, No. 24 Virginia Tech and No. 25 Duke.
