Oklahoma's 2028 football recruiting class just keeps rolling. Four-star defensive lineman Logan Lokey out of Denton Guyer in Texas is officially a Sooner.
He told Hayes Fawcett of Rivals the news, and the 6-3, 245-pound defensive end picked Oklahoma over Texas A&M, SMU, and Texas Tech.
His announcement said it all: “All glory to the man above for helping me find home! Jesus loves you!”
Rivals has him with an 89.99 industry score. That’s good for No. 227 overall, the No. 22 defensive lineman in the country, and the No. 28 player in Texas. Solid rankings, especially for a guy who’s still got two years left of high school ball.
Lokey didn’t just wake up and decide this. He spent the whole weekend in Norman around Brent Venables, the coaching staff, and the front office before locking it in. That time clearly was a big deal.
Here’s what he told Rivals: “What sealed the deal for me was fit and God giving me a sense of belonging with the coaching staff and players … that’s when I knew the time was right. As a defensive end, playing under such a great and touted coach like Coach Chavis is such an amazing opportunity, along with playing under an amazing defensive-minded head coach … It all felt like the perfect fit for me.”
He went even deeper on the culture piece.
“I’m excited about my fit because it has all the things that I believe will make me successful, especially the blue-collar, drop-your-head-and-work culture they have — it just really connects with me as a person and player. Along with the strong faith-based coaching staff and team.”
That blue-collar, head-down mentality is exactly what Brent Venables is looking for. You can tell it hit home with him.
On the field, he's has been a problem for his opponets. As a sophomore last year he put up 21 tackles, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and 1.5 sacks.
This season though? He’s taken it to another level.
Through nine games he’s already got 51 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks, plus a couple pass breakups and another forced fumble. Those are ridiculous disruption numbers for a junior.
Football’s in the blood too.
His dad is Derek Lokey, who played defensive tackle at Texas and had a short stint with the Kansas City Chiefs. So he’s grown up around the game at a high level.
This wasn’t some random late push either. Lokey has been around Oklahoma a lot. He was in Norman for the New Mexico game back on September 19 (the ugly 14-6 win). He came up for the spring game in April, and he hit one of Venables’ camps over the summer. The staff has been on him hard since the summer and it finally paid off.
Guyer has been a good school for OU lately, and landing another one from there in the DFW area is a nice win. Texas kids who buy into the culture tend to stick.
With this one, Lokey becomes the fifth commit in the 2028 class. He joins tight end Connor Arant, linebacker Jay Schell, quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, and wide receiver Colton Fitzgibbon. Getting a productive edge guy in there helps balance things out after the early offensive commitments.
He seems to be a natural fit. Productive, physical, buys into the work ethic, strong faith, and already comfortable in Norman. That is exactly the kind of player Venables wants on the defensive line.
