Texas A&M entered Saturday's matchup against Alabama hoping to turn its season around. Instead, the Aggies left Tuscaloosa with another disappointing loss and even more questions about their ability to finish games.
A&M carried a 20-17 lead into the fourth quarter before surrendering 14 unanswered points in a 31-20 loss to Alabama. The defeat dropped the Aggies to 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC play, leaving little room for error over the final month of the regular season.
The remaining schedule also looks different following another unpredictable weekend in the SEC. South Carolina upset Tennessee, Texas bounced back with a win over Ole Miss, and Oklahoma returned to the win column with a win over Mississippi State.
With a bye week ahead, Texas A&M can regroup before facing four conference opponents. The Aggies need at least two victories to reach bowl eligibility, but none of their remaining matchups appears particularly comfortable.
Here is an updated ranking of Texas A&M’s seven remaining opponents from easiest to toughest heading into Week 9.
4. Texas A&M @ Oklahoma - Week 12

2025 final record: 4-3
Analysis: Oklahoma snapped its two-game losing streak with a 23-15 road victory over Mississippi State. The Sooners have struggled offensively throughout SEC play, including John Mateer's four-interception performance against Kentucky.
However, Oklahoma's defense can still keep games close. Playing in Norman presents another challenge for an A&M team that has struggled away from Kyle Field, but the Sooners remain the most manageable opponent on the schedule.
3. Texas A&M @ South Carolina - Week 10

2026 record: 4-3
Analysis: South Carolina has suddenly become a much more dangerous opponent. The Gamecocks followed their victory over Florida with a 27-24 upset of Tennessee, extending their winning streak to two games.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers continues to trouble opposing defenses with his ability to make plays through the air and on the ground. A&M also must travel to Williams-Brice Stadium, where South Carolina just knocked off a ranked opponent. This matchup looks much tougher than it did two weeks ago.
2. Texas A&M vs. Tennessee - Week 11

2026 record: 6-2
Analysis: Tennessee suffered a disappointing 27-24 loss at South Carolina after building a 21-17 halftime lead. The defeat came one week after the Volunteers dominated Alabama, highlighting the unpredictable nature of SEC football this season.
Tennessee remains one of the conference's most talented teams, particularly on offense. The Aggies benefit from playing at Kyle Field, but slowing the Volunteers will require more consistent defense than A&M has shown against several SEC opponents.
1. Texas A&M vs. Texas - Week 13

2026 record: 5-2
Analysis: Texas responded to consecutive losses with a key 34-27 win over Ole Miss, keeping its postseason hopes alive. Arch Manning and the Longhorns improved offensively, while their defense made enough plays to secure the win.
Texas has had its share of inconsistencies, but wins over Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss show the roster's potential. The rivalry returns to Kyle Field on November 27, and the stakes could extend well beyond bragging rights. For now, Texas remains A&M's toughest remaining opponent.
