On a weekend where NC State and Baylor each made head coaching chances, TCU has also made a change after a disastrous home loss against West Virginia. However, rather than part ways with Sonny Dykes, multiple reports indicate the Horned Frogs have fired offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator A.J. Ricker. Ricker, who had worked under Dykes since their SMU days, joined the TCU staff in late 2021 after two seasons with SMU.
HornedFrogBlitz reports that offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis and assistant offensive line coach Ryan Swingle will take over the position group. TCU’s offensive line has struggled mightily this season, as the Horned Frogs are averaging only 3.3 yards per carry. Moreover, quarterback Jaden Craig has been sacked 20 times over seven games, including three times in the loss to the Mountaineers. On the final sack, Craig fumbled the ball and West Virginia recovered, sealing a 24-20 win over the Horned Frogs, who were a 10.5-point favorite to win.
Ricker’s previous stops include time at Kansas (2018), Oklahoma State (2017), Houston (2016), Missouri (2014-15), Illinois (2013) and Western Michigan (2006-08 and 2011-12). Ricker is the latest offensive assistant coach to leave the staff in the last year. Former TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles departed for South Carolina and former running backs coach Jimmy Smith left for Georgia Tech. Sammis replaced Briles, while TCU added a new quarterbacks coach in Brad Robbins and former UConn assistant Antonio Wilcox as the running backs coach.
