The Texas Longhorns have made another addition to their 2027 recruiting class, securing a commitment from three-star linebacker RJ Hudson, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
Hudson was previously committed to the Clemson Tigers, but backed off his pledge on Oct. 9 after the Longhorns offered him a scholarship on Sept. 21. They got him to Austin for an official visit this past weekend, allowing him to see their big win over the Ole Miss Rebels, and two days later they completed the flip.
He is ranked as the No. 511 overall player and No. 42 linebacker in the Rivals industry rating. The Richmond native is also the No. 15 player from Virginia.
While his stats from his senior season at Varina High School are not available, he had an excellent junior season. He finished the year with 45 tackles, 13.0 sacks, 21.0 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, and one pick-six, helping them win the Class 4 state championship.
Hudson is Texas' first commitment at linebacker in the 2027 recruiting cycle. His addition gives them 22 commits overall, 13 of whom are blue-chip prospects. Rivals ranks their recruiting class as the 9th best in the country and the 4th best in the SEC.
