Last week was a very significant one for the Big 12 title race. Utah knocked off Houston as it hosted College Gameday. BYU could not avoid a letdown after beating Notre Dame as it lost at UCF in the Bounce House.
However, many likely did not see Texas Tech losing at Cincinnati as a double-digit favorite. The Red Raiders fell to 3-1 in conference play and return home to face Arizona.
Typically, Texas Tech, Utah, BYU, and Houston are the teams discussed when people bring up Big 12 Championship and College Football Playoff implications. However, Arizona is not to be slept on, as it is also 3-1 in the conference and sits at No. 22 in the AP Top 25.
Arizona is alive and well in the Big 12 race and CFP with shots at Texas Tech and Utah in the next couple of weeks. If they are going to go on that kind of run, it will be led by senior quarterback Noah Fifita.
That is where we will begin my Texas Tech vs. Arizona picks and college football parlay for college football Week 9 on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Texas Tech vs. Arizona Odds
As a four-year starter, Noah Fifita has thrown for over 11,000 passing yards and only needs nine touchdowns to reach 100 for his career. However, his senior season is on track to be the best one of his career.
Fifita heads into Lubbock this week, completing 74.2% of his passes while throwing for 2,064 yards, 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He ranks in the top 20 among FBS quarterbacks in passing yards, touchdown passes and QBR.
Fifita is averaging 292.4 passing yards per game this season. He has thrown for 250 yards in six of his first seven games this season and eight of his last nine dating back to last season.
He has only faced Texas Tech once in his career, and while he did throw two interceptions, he also threw for 301 yards on 49 attempts.
He is coming off consecutive 300-yard games, and a third may be in the cards this week. The Red Raiders are allowing 266.1 passing yards per game, and they have allowed 275 passing yards in four of their past six games.
They also rank 86th in passing Success Rate allowed and 106th in explosiveness allowed. Averaging 9.2 yards per attempt this season, Fifita should take advantage.
Lost in the Brendan Sorsby saga was the fact that Texas Tech had another starting-caliber quarterback on the roster. Will Hammond was just recovering from a torn ACL.
After flashing in spot duty, Hammond has underwhelmed to a degree this season. He has six touchdowns and six interceptions on the year and ranks 51st in QBR.
However, he has also thrown for 1,561 yards and is averaging 223 yards per game. Hammond has thrown for 200 yards in five of his seven starts this season, including each of the Red Raiders’ four home games.
He’s averaging 253 passing yards per game at home this season and faces a Wildcats defense that allows 207.7 passing yards per game.
It will help Hammond this week having both of his standout running backs available.
Cameron Dickey was injured in the victory over Colorado and has missed the Red Raiders’ last two games.
J’Koby Williams picked up the slack, rushing for 165 yards against Arizona State and 81 at Cincinnati last week. He leads the team with 619 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 7.2 yards per carry.
However, even when Dickey has been available, Williams has run for at least 60 yards in four of his five games and six of his seven overall.
He will face an Arizona defense that has been strong against the run, ranking 10th in Rushing Success Rate allowed. It’s allowing 107.7 rushing yards per game and 3.1 yards per carry.
However, the Wildcats are 126th in explosiveness allowed. That should benefit both Hammond and particularly Williams, who has had a 20-yard rush in each of his last six games.
- Noah Fifita 250+ Alt Passing Yards (-130)
- Will Hammond 200+ Alt Passing Yards (+102)
- J’Koby Williams 60+ Alt Rushing Yards (-154)
Parlay Odds: +448 (FanDuel)
