College football's Week 9 may have been played on Halloween, but for most of the teams ranked inside the Top 25, spooky season did not create too much chaos. We did have some scary surprises on Saturday, though.
In the early slate on Saturday, Texas Tech got itself back in the Big 12 title game race with a 34-26 win over Arizona at home. SMU lost on the road to Syracuse, and newly ranked Wisconsin got drubbed by Iowa, 30-0. In the SEC, Ole Miss took care of Auburn, 45-15, and Notre Dame defeated Navy, 35-13. Florida State fans flew an anti-Mike Norvell plane banner that contained a typo before the Seminoles' loss to Clemson.
In the later afternoon window, Georgia dominated Florida 27-8 in Atlanta for a sixth-straight win in that rivalry. The Dawgs defense is so good it makes Georgia look like a national title contender. Indiana survived an overtime thriller 23-16 over Minnesota, as Hoosier receiver Charlie Becker's late-game heroics helped deliver the win. Curt Cignetti also made a change at quarterback, starting Grant Wilson for Josh Hoover in the second half.
In the evening slate, Texas took care of Mississippi State 31-3, and USC completely turned the Big Ten race upside down with its 30-18 win over Ohio State. Buckeye quarterback Luke Fahey struggled in his first start as a true freshman. Miami survived a road scare against Bill Belichick's UNC Tar Heels, as Belichick let yet another fourth-quarter lead slip from his grasp.
