We have reached the point in the 2026 college football season when the first College Football Playoff rankings are released.

The stretch run will be fantastic, especially as some of the top teams play one another before the final CFP rankings come out. The 12-team CFP begins with first-round games on Dec. 18 and 19.

Miami leads the pack in the CFP Selection Committee’s first ranking, followed by Georgia, Utah, Indiana and Alabama. Kentucky and Texas occupy the No. 6 and No. 7 spots, followed by UCLA, BYU and Ole Miss rounding out the top 10. Notre Dame is 11th, and Ohio State stands 12th.

As the lone Group of Six team in the CFP top 25, Boise State would receive the 12th and final playoff berth if the season ended today, knocking the Buckeyes out of the field.

The current CFP bracket has Miami, Georgia, Utah and Indiana receiving first-round byes. Alabama would play Boise State in the 5-12 game, while Kentucky would play Notre Dame in the 6-11 game. Finally, Texas would play Ole Miss in the 7-10 game, and UCLA would play BYU in the 8-9 game.
