The Florida Gators are trying to create a spark this weekend in a must-win game against the Oklahoma Sooners, and they're doing so by making a big change under center. According to multiple reports, Florida is going away from former starting QB Aaron Philo and will instead give the start to sophomore Tramell Jones.
Jones played a lot in last week's loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, completing 18-of-25 passes for 172 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. So far this year, he has thrown for 579 yards, four TDs, and three INTs, with his best game coming against the Texas Longhorns earlier in the season, when he had 155 yards and two TDs through the air.
Sitting at 5-3 and ranked No. 24 in the College Football Playoff rankings that came out on Tuesday night, Florida is in a critical spot in the season, needing to virtually win out if they want any chance of sniffing a postseason spot. Their schedule is manageable, as they play the struggling Sooners this week, but they have a tough matchup against the No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats on the road next week.
After that, the Gators close it out with games against the Vanderbilt Commodores and at the Florida State Seminoles. We will see how Jones can perform this weekend, or else there might be a flip back to Philo for a potential ranked showdown vs. Kentucky next week.
