The 2026 college football season is still on track to be one of the craziest ever, and there were plenty of upsets in Week 9 across the country. The ACC featured two notable upsets on Saturday, with the FSU Seminoles suffering another embarrassing loss.
FSU was favored over the Clemson Tigers, but never led and ultimately fell 36-24, suffering its third straight loss of the season. The SMU Mustangs had an even worse loss, getting upset by the Syracuse Orange. The loss caused the Mustangs to fall eight spots to No. 24 in the US LBM Coaches poll.
They were not the only one of FSU's rivals to drop in the rankings. The Florida Gators lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 27-8 and fell out of the top 25. With them no longer ranked, FSU is not set to play a ranked opponent in their final four games of the season, with them needing to win three to make a bowl.
SMU was the only ACC team to fall in the rankings, with the Miami Hurricanes staying put at No. 1 and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons climbing one spot to No. 14.
