Texas A&M's 4-4 record and 1-4 standing in SEC play could affect the Aggies' No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, as four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside flipping his commitment to Miami, combined with five-star LB Kaden Henderson visiting Notre Dame this weekend, has Aggie fans on edge heading into Early Signing Day.
Third-year coach Mike Elko has plenty on his plate, hoping that things turn around for his team over the final four games of the 2026 season, starting with facing South Carolina on the road, while his focus will also shift to the 2028 recruiting cycle, made up of two commits, including five-star quarterback Donald Tabron.
Among the 2027 cycle's 25 commits, five-star Kamauri Dorsey and four-star JayQuan Snell form an elite safety duo and are two of the program's commits who have shut down their recruitment and intend to sign with the Aggies next month. Both players will contend for starting or key rotational roles next season, while Elko and his staff have reportedly offered one of the rising defensive backs in the 2028 class.
2028 four-star safety Troy Bishop, who is currently in the middle of his junior year at the prestigious Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana (CA), is a versatile defensive back prospect with immense potential as a future starting strong safety, and has also played cornerback and nickel, which is one of the primary reasons he's received nearly 20 offers.
Bishop is one of the better run defenders, possessing sideline-to-sideline athleticism to make plays against zone runs, and is equally impressive in man coverage, playing with consistent physicality at the catch point.
Extremely Blessed and Thankful to receive an offer from Texas A&M University!! #GigEm@joejoeheaden@GregBiggins@BlairAngulo@ChadSimmons_@BrandonHuffman@adamgorney@TomLoy247@Realregular4pic.twitter.com/deXvkliz9w
